1. A Means to End

When the shadows came alive again
The ghosts remained my only friends
and the flames I thought would cleanse me
were just a means to end

The visions of my agony
were a self-fulfilling prophecy
I can see the future
but it keeps blinding me

I will never make it home
I always hoped I’d die alone
but I never quite believed
that I’d reap the seeds I’d sown

I played the damnation game
Too happy with what I became
I keep myself within these walls
to hide from all your shame

So I turned my back again
and washed the blood off of my hands
The vicious circle begins anew
but I don’t think I can

As a revolting symphony
plays for unused sympathy
I wonder how easy it must be
for you to thrive on your pity

I can see it coming down

If the future is the consequence of our past
Then why are we so afraid
Do we fear that nothing can be saved
From all the suffering we’ve laid

A tortured soul of joy denied
Don’t you see all you ever do is cry
and ask unto the world
“Who have suffered more than I?”

Though you find time to complain
You remain passive just the same
I guess no one has told you
Tears won’t bring you change

Know your disassociation
with your own contamination
will only lead you further
into your degeneration

When the shadows came alive again
The ghosts remained my only friends
and the flames I thought would cleanse me
were just a means to end

Know your disassociation
with your own contamination
will only lead you further
into your degeneration

2. The Angel & the Abyss

We move wraith-like through the abyss
Careful of the newly fallen angels
Over the horizon, we see the storm moves forward
Crushing whatever dreams we had of seeing the light again

Now the only light we see
is that of flames licking our feet
and what life is left in the angels
before they hit the concrete

The angel looked up at me and asked
“Why is everything dying?”
I told him:
“Everything is already dead?”
He then asked why we surround ourselves
with such grotesque displays
I told him:
“That’s how we know that our disease has spread”

It seems our beloved process of demonization
has turned its eye toward us
No longer certain of where the monster lay
though we look into the mirror
and stare back at it’s gaze

Through the heavy ash and smoke
the answer was too clear
Through all these years we cried out “Wolf!”
The wolf was always here

The angel looked up at me and asked
“Where did you go wrong?”
I told him:
“Everything was already gone?”
He then asked why we surround ourselves
with such grotesque displays
I told him:
“That’s how it’s been all along”

3. The Art of Dying Slow

Our sun has set
Pulling darkness over our eyes
but we already blackened our skies
an absence that remains untouched

As if by design
we close our eyes and hope to climb
reaching in vain only to find
nothing in our hands

The light of day will highlight the faults once again
So close your eyes and pray that the night will never end

With the truth just a memory
It’s just that easy to ignore
When complacency’s the way to go
The joy of life becomes the art of dying slow

Through false hope we fall

We turn our eyes to the sky
To make the Earth go away
But through our gaze we never see
Despair became our sky today

And the ground was thought a giant grave
as a requiem fell on the stave
and the symphony began to play

Thus we regress
a day is just another lament
commemorating our descent
and the frailty of joy

The veil of night shall hide the fate from which we all run
but a lack of night cannot disguise that our fall has begun

Distracted by the sun, we looked into the sky
we couldn’t see the end ‘til it was right before our eyes

With the truth just a memory
It’s just that easy to ignore
When complacency’s the way to go
The joy of life becomes the art of dying slow

Through false hope we fall

We turn our eyes to the sky
To make the Earth go away
But through our gaze we never see
Despair became our sky today

4. The Frailty of Vanity

He saw the light upon his face

To the simple eye
vanity is something to abhor
Yet to the beholder
No gift could mean any more
Beauty should be cherished
more than any useless virtue
for the beautiful are forgiven
More so than any of you

Yet beauty is rather useless

I won’t be judged by the contents of my soul
for the concept has grown quite old
I never cared for the respect afforded to me
I always preferred the envy
I’d give my soul to hold on to my youth
and I’ll the people I’ve yet to use
I’ll go unpunished until I’m dead
or so he thought until he said

“Every deed fell upon my face
Yet for all these years they left no trace
I’d pray my wrongs could be undone
If I had known what I’d become”

He saw the light and damned it’s gaze

Beauty fades while the body decays
but beauty stays while the soul is astray
This is a gift to those with vanity
but what justice could that really be?

Beauty is only skin deep
so why is it the only standard we keep
It has no practical use
yet a million forms of blatant abuse
Because of the lives you’ve cast aside
you wear that face as a disguise
Beauty makes it easy to hide
the ugliness inside

Every deed fell upon my face
Yet for all these years they left no trace
I’d pray my wrongs could be undone
If I had known what I’d become

Now he couldn’t take the pain
this beauty was not the same
it had forsaken him after all
when his face splattered on the wall

5. Smiling at the Void

Forgotten in this panorama
obscured by blinding light
yet ablaze with confident derision
and the bleak solace of spite

I see a world of hope and beauty
awash in obsidian shades
a world so proud and vain
yet so eager to decay

and in the end we’re caught
all we can do is rot

Nothing will endure
that is the fate we’ve earned
I can rest my head knowing that you’ll die
But only pray you’ll burn

As I stand beneath the shadow
I only smile at the void
for it’s a stark, poetic beauty
to see salvation so thoroughly destroyed

Though you keep reaching for the promised land
It keeps slipping through your hands
And as you watch it fall away
you realize we’re all damned

and in the end we’re bound
just a body in the ground

Nothing will endure
that is the fate we’ve earned
I can rest my head knowing that you’ll die
But only pray you’ll burn

6. Achromatic Future

Welcome to the future
hope you enjoyed the ride
No flying cars, no robot maids
you work then fucking die
Didn’t mean to disappoint you
yet don’t care if you mind
Is this what you wanted?
Just give me a sign

Ask not if you will be saved
ask if you can save yourself
As blackened snow spills from ashen sky
the last dawn fades and the children cry:
“Our blankets are now body bags
waiting to be filled”
Though the sun won’t blow away
they’ll be no comfort here today
Our dreams were just illusions
waiting to be killed

I see a storm on the horizon
I feel the worst is yet to come
I look to see a new dawn rising
but turn away ‘cause there is none

With all we’ve done how did we go
from astral heights to brimstone lows?

I will see you in the morning
though the dawn will never come

7. A Black & Comfortless Sky

The bane of man is crawling
to burden him with decay
Is this all that we’re meant to be?
We suffer just to breathe

Now rain is descending
from a black and comfortless sky
I open my mouth but the rain cannot fill
the emptiness inside

Our life slips through our hands
as we’re marching towards the wasteland
We have progress in our grip
But it still ends in the crypt

To conquer thy flesh
To conquer thy blood
Would be the single greatest gift
That man may never own
Our blood is like a poison
that stains our greatest mistakes
Piety is divine
but life belongs to mankind

Today I struck down Heaven
by creating an image of man
Today I am God
Yet I feel damned

My efforts to ascend
have left me empty instead
I still hear the voice in my head:
“We belong dead...”

To conquer thy flesh
To conquer thy blood
May be the single greatest gift
That man can never own
Our blood is like a poison
that stains our greatest mistakes
Piety is divine
but failure belongs to mankind

Soulless, Godless, Loveless
Breaking in two
One of us is a monster
But is the monster you?

8. As We Suffer

Nothing here’s eternal
as far as I can see
The things that we hold dear
are destined to be memories

Now as the seal is broken
We’ll see how far we got
Now all that we can do
Is accept the fate we bought

We cannot be free
‘til we embrace our suffering

We see in idealizations
what’s there is a world apart
a consequence of different views
straddling a violent change of heart
The years of blatant disregard
have exacted their toll
for we never expected
the darkness in our souls

Now as I close my jaded eyes
and pray this skin will shed
This human race we thought we’d won
but victory was in our heads

So let the filth renew
These maggots are a gift to you
Shining dark for the world to see
As we suffer we are free

Nothing here’s eternal
we cannot be free
until we halt our sorrows
and embrace our suffering
Another stay of execution
is another chance to go wrong
you seem so scared of Hell
but we’ve been burning all along

I killed my heart today
Ripped it out then blew it away
Now I don’t feel the sting
I don’t feel anything

So let the filth renew
These maggots are a gift to you
Shining dark for the world to see
As we suffer we are free

9. The Beauty of Decay

Sometimes we find what we struggle for
but then it turns into a wreck
‘cause no one minds the vulture’s claws
until they’re planted in your neck

As you suffer, you may cry
but we’ll just feed you a lullaby
The more you struggle, the faster you sink
and this place only gets colder
but if you listen then you may just hear
The weight of the world as it’s breaking your shoulders

Now take a moment to pretend
This is not the fucking end

Now take you seat as the curtain goes up
They say the world is a stage
One more regret as the lid’s coming down
They say the world is a grave
So grab a bullet for your hopes and dreams
and just blow them away
‘Cause that’s the price that we have to pay
For the beauty of decay
